Going yard: BOSS Lubricants supports Babe Ruth PNW Regional Tournament

From the Rotary Club to motorsports, ‘the grassroots of the community is our home,’ says BOSS President Jarrett Flegel

CALGARY, Canada (July 25, 2024)—They’re swinging for the fences, with a berth in the World Series on the line.

This week, about 100 teens with stars in their eyes—and sporting one of eight uniforms—have gathered in Calgary for baseball’s Babe Ruth 14-year-old Pacific Northwest regional championship.

From a pool that includes squads from Idaho (Middleton All Stars), Montana (Gallatin Valley and Bozeman Bucks), Oregon (Three Rivers All Stars and Lakeridge Pacers), Washington state (MLYBA All-Stars), and the host city (AAA and AA Longhorns), the winner of Saturday’s final will advance to the Babe Ruth 14-year-old World Series in Eagle Pass, TX from Aug. 8 to 18.

BOSS Lubricants is not just watching from the stands. As a sponsor of Babe Ruth youth baseball, we’re helping those diamond dreams take wing at these Pacific Northwest Regionals.

BOSS President and Chief Operations Officer Jarrett Flegel, the volunteer president of Babe Ruth Calgary, threw out the first pitch during Tuesday’s opening ceremonies.

“At BOSS, the grassroots of the community is our home, and Babe Ruth baseball is about as grassroots as it gets,” says Flegel. “We wouldn’t be where we are after 32 years without repaying the kindnesses of the businesses and communities that have supported us along the way—and contributing to the causes that are important to them.”

Breaking out the boots for Stampede charities

BOSS community support also extends to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.

On July 4, we hosted a Calgary Stampede kick-off BBQ in partnership with the Rotary Club of Calgary to launch the Stampede’s Rotary Dream Home lottery package, benefiting local charity.

Nearly 500 people, including 200 Rotarians, attended this year’s BOSS Stampede BBQ, as did numerous special guests:

Live entertainment included music courtesy of Bailey and the Boys, featuring our own founder and CEO Murray Flegel, as well as the Calgary Fiddlers.

Shifting into high gear on the speedway

If you know BOSS Lubricants, you know that we’re also about horsepower under the hood.

This year, we’ve sponsored aptly named Calgary Kart Racing Club (CKRC) speedster Boss Patel, who’s just 14 years young.

This season, Patel has moved up to the senior category after winning the national Rotax Canada Final and earning a ticket to the 23rd Rotax Max Grand Challenge Finals—the world championship—in Bahrain last December as a junior.

We’re also active in supporting North American Big Rig Racing (as seen on History TV’s Big Rig Warriors), sponsoring the Lucky 13 racing team that includes drivers Cole Wiesner and Brady Riplinger.

BOSS is also a sponsor of Calgary-based 360 sprint car racer Ross Mathewson, who’s currently battling it out on the dirt in the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) across Western Canada and the western United States.
