CALGARY, Canada (April 22, 2021)—From Shanghai to London to Glasgow to Rio, swimmer Martha McCabe has powered her way through the pool against the world’s best.

As a two-time Olympian swimmer, she knows about the positive influence she’s made on the next generation—as well as the difficulties faced by former Olympic athletes transitioning to life after sport.

By establishing the Head to Head organization in 2016, she’s maximizing that Olympic aura—at both ends of the Olympic journey.

“I started Head to Head to promote resilience to youth across Canada to help them reach their full potential—and to support athletes financially and through mentorship opportunities, as they transition away from their role as an athlete,” says Martha, a Toronto native, who splashed her way to a bronze medal at the 2011 world championships in Shanghai and represented Canada at the 2012 and 2016 Games.

Since 2016, Head to Head’s carefully selected Olympian mentors have connected with more than 12,000 youth across Canada through schools, youth groups and teams—empowering the next generation with the mental resilience and physical wellness to reach their full potential with confidence.

At the same time, Head to Head has provided tangible support and purpose to dozens of Canadian Olympians as they move into life after sport.

BOSS Lubricants is committed to making life better in the communities where we do business. That’s why, since late 2020, we’ve been working with Head to Head through sponsorship of its Olympian-led mentorship programs.

“We believe strongly in helping aspiring young athletes pursue their athletic dreams, as well as helping athletes who have lived in a ‘training bubble’ for most of their young lives transition back into the workforce,” says Jarrett Flegel, President of BOSS Lubricants.

Adds Martha: “BOSS Lubricants’ commitment to the community, and support of Head to Head, means that more young people will have access to an Olympian mentor who has firsthand experience managing pressure and persevering through obstacles.”

As a BOSS Lubricants customer, you’ve likely got employees with kids who want to know what that Olympic dream looks like. By registering with Head to Head Insiders, families gain access to educational videos, webinars, online access to mentors, and much more.

Each Head to Head mentor has tips, ideas and insights that will help a teen or young adult be the best version of themselves—whether it’s in sport, school, or another endeavor.

“As a two-time Olympian, I know that in order to reach my potential, I need a team of supporters behind me,” says Martha. “At Head to Head, being supported by a community focused, wholly Canadian company like BOSS Lubricants is a difference maker—it allows us to increase our reach across the nation.”

Remarks Jarrett: “Personally speaking, I have always wondered what the life of an aspiring Olympic athlete looks like, since their end game isn’t making millions from their respective sport as they train and work part-time jobs. I think that’s a very important story—what the commitment and the journey look like—and I believe it needs to be told to the thousands of aspiring athletes across Canada.”
